8-Day Tour From Casablanca to Fes, Desert, and Marrakech Itinerary:

Day 1: Casablanca – Fes

Your private journey begins with a pickup from your hotel in Casablanca. We will explore some of the city’s main cultural highlights before heading towards Fes. Upon arrival, check into your riad or hotel for an overnight stay.

Today we explore the historic city of Fes. Wander through its winding streets and alleys, starting with the Royal Palace gate. Visit the first Jewish quarter (Mellah) in Morocco, built in the 16th century. Discover key cultural sites, including Al Qaraouine University, the Tanneries, the Attarine Museum, and the Moulay Idriss mausoleum. After lunch, explore local cooperatives and enjoy panoramic views of the Fes Medina before returning to your riad for the night.

After breakfast, depart Fes for Merzouga, passing through the scenic Mid-Atlas region. Stop in Ifrane, often called the “Switzerland of Morocco,” then continue to the cedar forests of Azrou to see and feed the Berber monkeys. Pause in Midelt for lunch before following the Ziz River to the Ziz Valley, Erfoud, and Rissani, where you can explore the lively local souk. Arrive in Merzouga for an overnight stay at a hotel.

Spend the day exploring the Sahara desert and the impressive Erg Chebbi dunes. Experience the Berber nomadic lifestyle and visit the “black village” of Khamlia for a live Gnawa music performance. Enjoy a traditional Berber lunch in Rissani before an afternoon camel ride at sunset across the golden dunes. Return to your desert camp for a tagine dinner, mint tea, and authentic Berber music under the starry Sahara sky.

Wake up early for a sunrise camel ride in the desert before returning to the village. Travel towards Tinghir and the Todra Gorge, Morocco’s tallest and narrowest gorge, with optional hiking in the valley. After lunch, continue to Dades Gorge to admire its unique rock formations, including the famous “monkey toes.” Overnight at a local hotel or riad in the Dades Gorge.

Drive along the scenic route of a thousand Kasbahs to Ouarzazate, stopping at Kalaat Mgouna, the heart of the Valley of Roses, for a break and lunch. Visit the iconic Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah before crossing the Tizi-n-Tichka Pass into Marrakesh. Check into your hotel or riad for the night.

Explore Marrakesh with a guided tour of its main attractions, including Jamma el Fna square, Koutoubia Mosque, palaces, museums, and bustling souks. Discover the modern side of the city, visiting Gueliz, the Menara Gardens, and the Majorelle Gardens.

Depending on your flight schedule, enjoy some free time in Marrakesh for sightseeing or lunch at a local restaurant. Later, transfer to your hotel or the airport to conclude your journey.

FAQS:

What is the best desert tour from Marrakech?

The best desert tour from Marrakech depends on how much time you have. The 3-day Marrakech to Merzouga desert tour is the most popular, as it allows you to experience the majestic dunes of Erg Chebbi, ride camels, and sleep in a luxury desert camp under the stars. If you have more time, the 4-day or 5-day desert tours offer a deeper and more relaxed exploration of Morocco’s desert landscapes and kasbahs.

Technically, you cannot reach the real Sahara Desert on a day trip from Marrakech because it is too far away. However, you can take a day trip to the Agafay Desert, located just 40 minutes from Marrakech. Agafay offers a desert-like experience with rocky landscapes, camel rides, quad biking, and stunning views of the Atlas Mountains.

Absolutely! Visiting the Sahara Desert is one of Morocco’s most unforgettable experiences. Watching the sunset and sunrise over the dunes, riding camels through the sand, and spending a night in a luxury desert camp create magical memories that last a lifetime.

The Agafay Desert is the closest desert to Marrakech, located about 30–40 km southwest of the city. It is a rocky desert, not sandy like the Sahara, but it offers a great short escape for travelers who want a taste of the desert without a long drive.

Not exactly. The Sahara Desert is about 560 km away from Marrakech. The journey to the dunes of Erg Chebbi in Merzouga takes around 8 to 10 hours by road, usually split over two days with an overnight stop in Dades Valley or Ouarzazate.

It takes roughly 8 to 10 hours to reach Merzouga, where the famous Sahara dunes are located. Most desert tours spread the trip over multiple days to make it comfortable and enjoyable, with scenic stops along the High Atlas Mountains, Ait Ben Haddou, and the Dades Gorges.

The easiest and most comfortable way is to join a private or small-group desert tour from Marrakech. Your driver-guide will take you across the Atlas Mountains, through valleys and kasbahs, all the way to the Sahara. You can also rent a car, but a guided tour offers local expertise and a hassle-free experience.

The Erg Chebbi dunes near Merzouga are considered the best desert in Morocco for their stunning golden sand dunes and authentic desert atmosphere. Another great option is Erg Chigaga, a more remote and wild area near M’Hamid, perfect for travelers seeking adventure and tranquility.
